When we share music together, there is a positive impact on the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive well-being of everyone. Friendships form between parents. There is a sense of collective pride in the group when parents and grandparents see, hear, and are inspired by their children’s musical offerings and progress. There is a greater sense of cultural awareness when songs and games are shared from other cultures and when people from other cultures are part of the Musical Play group. Intergenerational music groups bring a wonderful interaction, joy, relationship and energy for young and old. The songs help residents from retirement villages remember the songs and games from their own childhood.
Singing together and playing music is a way of sharing cultural values, relaxing, and enjoying being together in a nurturing musical community. Musical Play builds a sense of music community and develops a sense of wonder and creativity, bringing cultures and generations together in the most remarkable ways.
