Play classes nurture children’s musicality and brain development while teaching
children and parents about the elements of music. Children develop a strong
sense of pitch, beat and rhythm; explore improvisation; play with interesting
scales and genres and enjoy music making in an environment which encourages
creativity, playfulness and fun! The Julie Wylie School of
Music offers Musical Play classes for babies through to 8 year olds at The
Music Centre in Christchurch on Barbados St. The classes run on Tuesdays,
Wednesdays and Fridays with baby classes available on each of these days and an
After-School programme running on Tuesday afternoons. This programme includes a
Beginners Keyboard Class for 5-8 year olds. Fees are $90 per term with a 50%
discount for enrolled siblings. Further information and our

other agencies working with young children and their families, are increasingly
aware of the importance of effective music in early childhood for child
development and brain growth. PD workshops and ongoing support can be tailor
made for individual centres to help staff develop and implement holistic music
programmes that support routines throughout the day and establish effective,
interactive music sessions. Teachers, students and professionals will be supported in developing their own understanding of music and confidence to play musically; an understanding of the science and psychology of Musical Play; effective strategies for integrating music education throughout the day and for use in daily routines; ideas for sharing songs, games, fine-motor play, dance, calming activities, games that teach the elements of music and making music fun. of $45. Louise Shand will come to your centre and demonstrate a fun and
effective music session with your children and staff which incorporates ideas
for further music sessions; teaching the elements of music; activities for
developing listening and attention; calming activities and a chance to discuss
some of the strategies and songs used with staff afterwards. Louise has extensive
experience in developing music programmes for babies through to 8 year olds and
